Sometimes my head feels like the inside of a Slushy machine. I have thoughts, to-do’s, worries, distractions, celebrations and cravings all swishing around inside my brain. If I don’t take care of my inner space, eventually those all blend together. I don’t know where one ends and the next begins – Slushy time!
Do you ever feel that way?
When I feel the whirring in my brain kick up, my tendency is to move faster and do more in the hopes I’ll get some of those distractions off my plate and the whirring will slow down. That is the exact moment when I know I’m in trouble.
Trying to do more in less time just moves the speed dial on my slushy brain from “high” to “manic.”
So I’ve learned what really works when the whirring starts.
I stop.
I stop just for a moment. Tara Brach refers to this as the sacred pause in her book, Radical Acceptance.
And it is sacred. Stopping when you feel compelled to do more – and do it quickly – honors the part of you that is sacred. It is the part of you that is your higher self. It is that aspect of YOU that actually has all the answers.
In that pause you will hear a new voice. An honest voice. A voice that loves you deeply. That voice has all the answers you are seeking. That voice is you. The real you.
It’s not the voice that will teach you how to be Super Mom.
It is the voice that will remind you that you already are Super Mom!
…and even Superheroes need to rest sometimes.
