I’d like to tell you a story about three women and their successes. The first woman recently announced her team did $1,000,000 in sales in a single month. That number is big and exciting. It is easy to understand the celebration. The scorecard of our world makes this a win.
The second woman booked her first paid speaking engagement. She will receive $500 for an hour of her time. For most people of this world…that would be a tremendous win. In the world of coaches and speakers, it would perhaps be considered a moderate win.
The third woman announced last week that she is going to close her business after investing years of sweat and love in its operation. Without having context to this woman and her journey, I imagine most people would see this as a loss or disappointment.
Yet, these three women are phenomenal warriors of light and their stories and the simple facts I’ve stated here don’t tell you what has really happened in each of their lives.
The numbers don’t reveal that the first woman doubted her purpose and her success a year ago. They don’t show that she has struggled with a loss so great that some days getting out of bed seemed impossible … and yet she did. Looking at the numbers you would not know that 2 years ago her sales were 1% of where they are now and that each step of the way she was brave and resilient in the face of doubt and fear.
The numbers do not tell you that the second woman fights to give women a voice in this world. The numbers don’t tell you the impact that the angry and unproductive conversations happening on social media and beyond have on her. She has wanted to give up. She doesn’t. She keeps going because she knows she is meant to help others and takes her role seriously.
The third woman, who has just closed her business, is a beautiful amazing light-filled soul that has used every part of her journey as a businesswoman to lift others and shine light on them. She has realized now that her future is to be a storyteller and she can’t do that while running a business.
Each has children and loved ones she treasures and cares for. Each has been a good friend, sister, wife, daughter as she defines it.
And there is more. So so much more. I have had the privilege of being close to each of these women on this journey and what I have watched happen to their souls is breathtaking. Each has evolved in her own way. Each has learned to trust what is important in her heart and followed it with faith. Each has found her way out of the dark forest of doubt and fear that we all must stumble through as we grow.
Each learned to let her heart be the scorekeeper, rather than the world outside. And as a result these warriors of light have found higher ground.
What about you? What scorecard are you using to judge your own success? Is it the scorecard that has been written by your heart, by your values, by your soul? Or is it a scorecard of some place out there, in social media or on tv?
Only you can define your success. And if you can match your actions with what is truly important to you, you will not only achieve success, you will find happiness.
In love and light,
Patty
