0:00:04.3 S1: Welcome to the space for magic podcast, where people who are led by their hearts come to learn the secrets to receiving all the gifts the Universe has for us. I’m your host, Patty Lennon. I’m an ex-type a corporate banker, turned intuitive coach using a blend of common sense brain science and just a dash of magic, I’m here to help you create abundance in every area of your life and business. Welcome.
0:00:36.6 S2: Hello everyone, welcome to this episode of the space for magic podcast. I have two friends with me today, they are so much more than just my friends, but Jenn and Jess have been a part of my life. Well, Jenn, for years and years and Jess for a whole bunch of years, and together they launched inspired girl enterprises, and so they are joining us today to talk about the history of creating what I know is gonna grow to be a company that everyone knows and hears about… And you are getting to hear about it from a very early stage, and one of the reasons that I wanted them on to talk about what they’re doing is ’cause I think it’s… They’re offering a lot of what you may be looking for in your life, that’s number one, but most importantly is they are an incredible example of feeling the call towards a dream and following it without all the pieces being clear as to how it’s going to be a success, and it’s just such a privilege to have them here with me today, Jenn and Jess, welcome. Thank you so much. Wow. What an intro Patty, I feel honored.
0:01:53.9 S2: Thank you so much, we’re definitely honor to be here and getting the chance to chat with you more, so… Thank you so much. Yeah.
0:02:03.7 S1: So for those of you listening, background is Jenn and I met at a networking event first, but then I came to know Jenn as a speaker, and then later on she came to know me in the same capacity, then I met Jess through Jen, through an event that they created called SOAR – SOAR Women symposium. And Jenn reached out to me right when this was… They were birthing this dream, and it has come to be an event that stands the test of time, and having put on my own events, I know that most events will die after a year and yet SOAR is heading straight into it. It’s fourth year, right?
0:02:46.4 S2: Yes, our first one was in… Oh my gosh, 2018. So we’ve done with, I think, six symposiums since then. It’s crazy. And you were the first one to say yes. I love it. Well, yeah, yeah, I was in on the early part of the dream, and I met Jess, then Jenn’s partner through this experience, and what was so amazing to me was both of them have a very aspirational quality about them, but in completely different ways, and rather than talk to you and tell you the person that’s listening what that is, I’m gonna let you learn it as you listen to their story, so maybe you guys could each share a little bit about your own individual quote unquote biographies, ’cause you’re both authors, your both entrepreneurs. Your both mothers, you’ve got lots of things that you do lots of different titles, so why don’t you tell everyone what is most important for them to know about you?
0:03:51.1 S1: Okay, Jenn you go first?
0:03:54.2 S2: Okay, so yeah, well, like you said, Patty, I’m a writer at heart I began… This is Jen, by the way, so I don’t know if you said that, but… So I’m a writer heart, I began writing since I could hold a pen, always sort of exploring life and its meaning and looking for what is this whole thing about? And in my early, early 20s, which is like decades ago, just got into the world of personal development and spirituality and just digging deeper, that’s how we met was really one of those networking groups, almost gosh, over… Definitely over a decade ago, and then from the writing I started to teaching workshops and speaking in classes, but lots of ups and downs in life as we all have, and just really wanting to… For me, it was always about not, Okay, I’m racing to the finish line, but what is this whole precious gift of life about? I mean, we have mountain top moments, Valley moments, and so many moments in between that, and just connecting with people through all of those while living our dreams, because I do believe that we wouldn’t dream it if someone didn’t need it, so…
0:05:10.6 S2: That was kind of always in my heart and helped me navigate a long way, that was how Jess and I came together for SOAR, was just me having this feeling to connect and Jess feeling the same way in her own journey, so if that makes sense, or that so that makes sense.
0:05:27.8 S1: Yeah, name, I’ll add in some things when you guys are done that if I feel like there’s some even other pieces of the puzzle that would be helpful to know, Jess… You go ahead. Okay, I don’t know why I volunteered her to go first, ’cause now I’m like, I can’t go… She nailed it. But no, so growing up in my family, being of service, helping others passionately and without a second thought, giving them your last… Anybody through your last dollar, your last sandwich. I kinda grew up with that. My grandmother volunteered with people, mental health, my dad would stop, he was a mechanic, and if someone was stuck on the side of the road, he’d pull over and immediately helped my mother, anything she had on her, if she was walking the board walk and somebody asked, she just handed it all or she didn’t think twice of herself, so I grew up with those… Those very powerful images, which I didn’t realize were so powerful at the time, so I really grew up with that passion for helping others, and it really started my journey when I was 31 and I got a job in the church basement, and here…
0:06:40.3 S1: I had four children, and my kids had enough, but they certainly didn’t have a lot, but they had way more than this after-school program that I was working with these kids from the inner city, and so I just watched an episode of hoarders and next thing you know I’m decluttering people’s houses, I’m doing collections and actually, I think it was… I just posted today, 11 years ago, I did a clothing toy drive for the orphans in Haiti after the earthquake. So since then, my passion is really just helping others in any way, shape or form that I can bringing people together, and through that I have an organizing company, Jenn and I do SOAR, I’m an author now, and we’re doing inspired girl enterprises, so really my passion of just bringing people together supporting one another and being of service is really my background, if I could say that, yes, you can say whatever you want to know or not.
0:07:45.8 S2: I know you’re not big on lying, so really anything that comes out of your mouth is welcome…
0:07:52.4 S1: There’s something that I wanna say about both of you, so that someone listening to understand is as we talk and people come to understand what inspired girl enterprises it, is the breadth of the work and what you offer. I know a lot of people have been craving examples of women leaders… Of leaders, period. That aren’t ego-driven.
0:08:21.0 S2: I think there’s a lot of people in the space that we play in that claim service, but every picture is a picture of them where it might be of their lifestyle or it might be of things that are just very material, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But what I want everyone to understand is that Jenn and Jess have had… Like Jenn said, the mountain tops and the valleys, they are the same people in their journey, they have always been the same people, and they are people that if you walked up to them at an event, it wouldn’t matter if they were the ones running the event, if they were on the stage, if they were the person being featured or they just happened to have a ticket, they’re going to treat you exactly the same way they’re going to treat anyone else in the room, and to me, that’s meaningful because I’m starting to see… There is a huge chasm that is happening in this space of inspirational work and spiritual work and personal development, and the people that are truly showing up without their egos, and the ones who are really there just to be famous, and you guys are just a beautiful example, of the best part of this stuff, so…
0:09:44.8 S2: Thank you. Well, we feel the same about you. So what you see in us is really just you, that’s really what it is. And I think ultimately, no matter what’s driving a person, there’s just so much that we can learn from that drive, so if somebody is maybe being driven a bit by their ego or fame, hopefully they’ll get a little insight into themselves through that drive at the core, we all just want the same thing, which is to be… I think loved and love is really the whole core of everything, so now I could go on and on about that, but I will stop there on time.
0:10:25.9 S1: I just… Talk a little bit about what inspired girl enterprises is. Actually, I’m gonna read something from the mission first, and then you can talk more about what it is and how it came to be. So if you go to inspiredgirlenterprises.com, you’ll find their mission statement, I’m just go read a little bit the inspired girl missions to bring forth content that connects us, joins us together. Spreads, light screams joy. I love that. Scream, joy.
0:10:55.7 S2: And his love and awesome motion. So that’s just a tiny bit of your mission, talk about what inspired girl enterprises is, there’s a publishing arm, and it is going to be so much more… Yes, well, what it really was was for me, there’s a quote and it’s like, I wish I could show you when you’re lonely and in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being. And that quote has helped me through some times where I was questioning everything and just remind me who I am, and so for me, it was always, Whatever, come from inspired girl, really had that sort of core that we’re reminding people of their life, ’cause we all need that reminder sometime that no matter what’s going on in the world, that you are light, that you are… Like I say, I love an awesome motion, and that’s really at the core what… The message and mission statement was something that I felt like I needed, and we don’t dream things that other people don’t need, as I said before, so that’s really what sort of started the idea of, What is the enterprise? What is inspired girl enterprises? It started out really because of a client of mine, who I have a background in, as I said, in writing and speaking, and I do coaching, and so one of my male clients wrote a book and he self-pubbed it and he ended up…
0:12:28.2 S2: It was a great book with a great message that so many people needed, and once we got it out into the world, and He did it through self-publishing, and I reached so many people… He said, You have to help other people do this, get their books out into the world, so it was really just on a whim, he said to me, You have to help people, and I’m going Really… I said, Do you think people need help with that? I do, I’m a published author, so I have a background in understanding the way the publishing process works, and so I kind of put it out there just to… The closest people I knew that, Hey, do you know anybody? Is this for you? And I realize now, at the time, I just put it out there, but now I just look at that as what an amazing thing that somebody actually said yes to me in this crazy thing, and that person was Jess, who’s with us, who’s now my partner in the inspired girl enterprises, but it really was the idea of helping somebody put their message, their story out into the world that could remind people and spread that light and scream joy and be love, and that was my first book that came out was Jesse’s book in September of 2019, and it’s called.
0:13:48.3 S2: She had no business. And she said, Yes, and then I got… It was sort of organic at first as people were coming to me for… Not necessarily thinking they were going to write a book. Coming to me for the other services that I provide in coaching, and I’d be sitting with them and be like, You have a book, I believe everyone has a book inside of them, and we need to put our stories out there because that’s how we connect and grow and learn. So people would sit with me and the book would literally pour out of them during a conversation, and the next thing you know, they were putting up their book together and they’re publishing their book, and so that’s kind of the start of how inspired girl enterprises began as really just is, helping people share these messages into the world to remind others and themselves who we are, and then over time, over 2020, the pandemic was happening. I had another family business that was in the food business, which as you can imagine during the pandemic was a tough time to have a restaurant, and we had just put every penny we had into expanding the restaurant in January of 2020.
0:15:06.9 S2: So by March, the pandemic hit and we were really just trying everything we could to make up for not having any resources and funding left, and at the same time, my husband had a debilitating injury that was making working very difficult. And so not really knowing like, Okay, what’s going on here? We threw this restaurant and built it to this place, and now this is happening, my husband’s hurting, but at the same time, people are being what I call it, divinely appointed, ’cause they had no idea, inspired girl enterprises wasn’t even a thing yet, it was just… Books, we were just helping them put the books out, they were showing up, and they were coming to me with just incredible, incredible stories and Jess was out there even during the pandemic, talking about her story at any place she could, sharing her messages. And these women were showing up, and by August of that year, my husband’s injury was so debilitating and the stress of with the restaurant world and long story short, we closed in August of 2020, and I just was like, Okay, I don’t really know God what you’re doing. But I’m gonna trust that something is…
0:16:32.4 S2: That there’s a reason or there’s something beauty that will come from this mess, and I knew that the messages were coming out and books were… By this time, we had at least eight authors, if not more, on board with inspired girl books, but then all of a sudden on a sort of a joke, I was like, Maybe we had this restaurant, so people could connect here and come together, and I wrote a book about the restaurant, and maybe the book will become a movie, I was just kind of spit balling like maybe it says… Maybe it’s that. My husband’s like, Jenny, how inspiring is that they had… You wrote a book about a restaurant that ultimately closed… Like What? Where’s the Inspiration there, that’s gonna be a movie. And I was like, No, I’ll make it up, I’ll make up an end, I’ll say like, I’ll fit… It’ll be a fiction book, and I’ll say that. You close the restaurant, we’ve lost everything. All this stuff happened, and then all of a sudden like, Oh, this big miracle is gonna occur, and everything’s gonna shift and you’re gonna appreciate this gift of life, and we’ll make a fiction. I said, Well, make you fit.
0:17:41.4 S2: And he started, laughed and said, Of course, you’re gonna make a fiction book a movie and make up this whole thing. And literally two days after that private conversation with my husband, because you know how this works, Patty I got a random email from somebody that knew years ago, who said, Hey, Jenn… I know you’re a writer. You might remember me. It was the producer of the movie Pretty Woman. And he said, we met years ago. Anyhow, I’m hosting a Zoom for people, writers who wanna make their works… Movies, if you wanna hop in. I was like, Wait, what? Are you kidding? Nobody even knew that that was a thing. So it was just to me, a sign from God that maybe there’s something more here with these messages, and then a couple months later, my husband’s injury had gotten worse and he ultimately needed a surgery, and the surgery ended up him getting his carotid artery cut and us running through the ER, screaming like, We’re gonna do everything we can see them, so they saved him… And that was our big miracle, and there was this big precious gift of life, so it just was so crazy how Michael and I went through these Valley moments and at the other side, he came out and we just spent these connecting and talking about things we hadn’t talked about in years because…
0:19:17.3 S2: Sorry, Patty. No.
0:19:20.0 S1: You’re good.
0:19:21.2 S2: No, I cry all the time, I can… On this podcast all the time.
0:19:25.7 S1: So Jenn, I remember hearing the story at the time and how unbelievable it was for you and for you listening, I know you have had something unbelievably difficult happen on the back of something also unbelievably difficult, and the thing that Jenn always does for me, as long as I’ve known her is she re-orients me to what it looks like to have faith, and she’s always been able to do that, she’s always… No matter how low the low gets, she can see the possibility and she’s also downplaying some of the other parts of her story, one when she said she’s written a book or she’s published a book, he had a major publishing deal like the one that most authors dream about, having… She has had TV deals, she just has connections all over the industry, and as you can hear, she really focuses on the parts of her story that can be of service, and Jenn, I just so appreciate that.
0:20:35.5 S2: Thank you. Before we go on with that now, how where inspired… Girl enterprises went to Jess. I wanna go back to you and ask you, what was it like saying.
0:20:49.9 S1: Yes to Jenn and doing your book with her, because I think that’s one other thing that connects the two of you, you’re both aspirational in your own ways, but the one thing I watch you both you, over and over again is to say Yes to potentiality, where most people would step back from the edge and look for bigger guarantees or proof that something is gonna work. So Jess talk about that.
0:21:16.8 S2: Sure, absolutely. I think it even starts before that, I think it starts with… SOAR I had mentioned very much earlier, ’cause I was writing a book with someone else and we just kind of connected, people put us together, and we met with Jenn, and I shared my story with her about going to Haiti it is my first time out of the country, my first passport, and bringing medical supplies and raising all of this money. And she goes, You need to share this. Where I’m like, Oh, it’s just something I did. And she’s like, No, you need to share this. People need to hear this story. Will you be on my panel at Boulder at the time, and that was in the Poconos, and I’m like, Why in the world would you want me to do that? But.
0:22:00.6 S1: Yeah, I don’t know what it entails, but I’m in count me in, I was just like, Okay, I trust her. And I was like, It could be a cool experience. So I had a bunch of people come from the shore and went up there, and so I said yes to that, really not knowing what to even expect. So there was that. And then Jen had come up with this… She had mentioned to me about this book idea, and immediately I thought of a half a dozen people that deserve to write a book that I thought would be cool and interesting, and they might take her up on that offer, and then somewhere along the line within an hour or two of her mentioning it’s me and me already mentioning it to the people that I thought of, I was like, Wait, maybe that should be me. I have some stories, I’ve been through many trials and tribulations, and I’ve done the thing, I’ve been in the valley, as you say. So I just went to Jenn and I was like, Well, what do you think about me? And she’s like, Oh my God, it has to be… I have goosebumps oh my goodness, but she…
0:23:05.7 S1: A super, super excited, and I was just like, Well, I have no idea what is going on, but I trust her. And I’m sorry, I skipped over the story, so Boulder turned into SOAR at the shore. And she’s like, Do you wanna be my partner? And I was like, Oh my gosh, I have no idea what that means. I’m honored, I don’t feel worthy enough. But yeah, count me in, let’s do this. So SOAR, has been such a heart-centered project for us, and then the book opportunity came in and I said, Well, if I just impacted one person with my story, I’m in, let me just do that, and that was an absurd amount of investment for me to do on myself, being a single soul supporter, mother of four at the time, and I was just like, I’m worth it, I’m gonna do it. So I did that, and then just recently in the end of December, Jenn presented the opportunity to become a partner of inspired girl Enterprises, and I immediately knew what I wanted the answer to be, but I’m like, Okay, I have to play cool. I’m supposed to take 24 hours or sleep on it…
0:24:16.1 S1: That’s a recommended advice. And I was like, Oh, and I have to talk to my husband. And I’m newly married, I’m like, God, what is that about? But I was like, Okay, but essentially, I felt like that Sheryl Sandberg quote, if someone offers you a ride on the rocket ship, you don’t say what seat… You just get on. And I knew with this opportunity, even though I had no idea where I was going, what I was gonna be, and again, it was another investment for sure, but I knew I would absolutely regret it, if I couldn’t do it, I didn’t find the means, I didn’t find a way I knew I would immediately just miss out ’cause I know, I have a feeling where the enterprise is going, and I don’t wanna be there like, Oh, I have the opportunity, but I didn’t. You know. And so that’s what it is. It’s just pure faith, it’s just like, I know something good is gonna come out of this, it’s going to help people on a bigger scale than we could potentially ever know, and to be a good role model and inspire my children to grow for more and keep dreaming and saying, Yes to opportunities where I wasn’t really exposed to that, and so I wanna leave a good memory or impression or a legacy for my kids to be like, You know what, I have no idea, but I’m gonna do it anyway, and…
0:25:41.0 S1: What’s the worst could happen? Lesson learned. So it was really just taking that chance, that leap of faith and feeling it from my heart, I didn’t think with my head and I just knew I needed to go and I would totally regret it and pay how you’ll die. So when I wanted to give Jenn the answer, ’cause this was a big deal, I went and got like, Yes, balloons, they were the mylar helium and they’re like 24 inches, so it was why he asked… ’cause I was like, Oh my gosh, it feels like a prom postal, but I wanted to be a big deal, and so I’m running up to the porch and trying to arrange them, but of course, the wind blew when we couldn’t get him straight, me and my husband and he stopped me at the dozen red roses, he’s like, No, you’re not bringing her a dozen red roses, but she came out and then the word said, yes. And here we are.
0:26:33.4 S2: Yeah, I love that, I love that. And.
0:26:37.6 S1: By the way, for you listening, ’cause we have people listening all over the world, when they reference the shore, they are talking about the Jersey Shore every…
0:26:45.9 S2: Look, although you are landscape options in the United States, most people know of the Jersey Shore. Yes. So I was on the inspired girl Enterprises site earlier today, and the visuals on this on the site are so compelling, so there’s so much going on here, talk about where inspired girl enterprises is going and how someone listening could benefit from it. What is there that they can access right now.
0:27:22.7 S1: I know you guys have an event coming up, so talk a little bit about how people can play with you.
0:27:28.2 S2: Sure, so yeah, so the enterprise has expanded now, so we have the book publishing arm, inspired girl books, and we do play that content into other avenues, so we develop things for different aspects of media, the TV to film animation, like we talked about earlier, and then we also have an events arm, so we brought… When Jess and I partnered at the beginning of this year, we brought SOAR under the inspired girl umbrella and SOAR’s our annual symposium that Patty often has been a speaker at, and we are so blessed by that, and then we also added a bunch of other events. So we started doing workshops, monthly workshops, we do quarterly events and all different kinds of things that are rooted in creating content that not just aligns with our mission, and then we also have the inspired girl Collective, which is just a membership-based community, where I say light workers come together to collectively raise the vibe and spread all of that amazingness into the world and be there for each other when we’re feeling a little low Vibe, we can listen and hold space and lift one another up. So there are just different aspects to the type of content we create, whether it be for books or media or communities, or events and that’s really…
0:28:57.0 S2: You can find all that fun stuff on the website…
0:29:00.7 S1: Yeah, so I was just looking at the navigation just to make sure I didn’t send anyone to the wrong place, but if you go to inspired girl enterprises dot com, the navigation along the top will show you the events, the collective, all of these juicy options. So what are you thinking is next for you two… Big dreamers, Hollywood.
0:29:20.8 S2: Not just kidding. On what’s next is really what’s now, and what’s happening now is seeing women come together and say yes to the dreams that are in their heart. We created an anthology book, it’s called magnificently made, and it was in my heart in all of 2021, I just know that all these stories coming together, we’re going to impact so many people and so… Another crazy dream, I wanted 33 women in the anthology, and just at how many long I… At 33, very exact number. And on February 14th, we had our 33rd woman sign up for the anthology, and it really was about them saying yes to something unseen again, something that wasn’t done before, we didn’t have an anthology for them to look to, we didn’t have something already, okay, we’ve done this before and seeing… And I guess when you said, what’s next and I said What’s now, it’s really in having the space where people can come together, I could say dreamers and believers to really just spread all that is good for each other and in the world, and be there when we need each other. And so the collective does that in many ways, the collective group of women that we have, well, we always have where we’re donating things to those who might need them, all different kinds of stuff like that, and we do have some fun stuff in the works on the media side that just joked around Hollywood.
0:31:00.9 S2: We do have some fun things in the work, but again, I do just look at that as just another way to spread these messages to people in ways in every day, small ways in the world that is so important, I think even more important than those big ways. Knows how we do in the small. And then in ways like creating content that can be consumable in larger numbers, and anything you wanna add to that Jess no… I really, I think that’s it. We’re just really so excited for the women that are showing up that are saying yes for the first time to investing them themselves or just taking some time to themselves, so it’s really beautiful to be able to spend some time and tell them just how wonderful they are ’cause sometimes, more than likely not, more than they don’t see it, so for us to be able to tell them all of those things because they have aligned with us on a deeper level, so it’s just such an amazing thing to be a part of. To watch, to witness. And I’m just so, so grateful.
0:32:13.6 S1: That’s wonderful. So we’ve talked about your website, is there anywhere else online that you… Like people to find you we’re on social media facebook Instagram and inspired girl enterprises and inspired girl books. So there’s a lot of fun stuff to connect with, I see what… What’s happening, what’s rolling. So.
0:32:36.6 S2: Yeah, online is great. Yeah, I was just gonna say the same. We are on the different social media platforms, I am not the best on social media, I don’t know if I’m showing my age, I know it just came something or I have no business writing a post because my posts are worn piece or novels, I’m like, Okay, I can’t believe I just post did 8000 words in a post. But you can find us there and they’re the old school. Generate can have a cup of coffee, a virtual coffee online, join us in the collective, which the collective is super fun. I will say these, we’re talking about a just and women saying Yes, but we meet regularly on Zoom, We do all kinds of things, we do hot seats where people can share something that’s in their heart, and then we all talk about it for a couple of minutes, or ask a question or dive in, like last time we dove into forgiveness, and it was really amazing to hear women share on their thoughts on forgiveness, and then we also bring in super fun experts. I brought in a producer from a TV show, and the women were like, What does this have to do? And I’m like, You’re light the world needs…
0:33:55.9 S2: And if you can pitch a segment on a TV show, you’re sharing your light, whether you make the best smoothie in the world, it doesn’t matter whether you have the best parenting advice or lesson learned or personal story, it’s the light that the world needs, so they were able to ask a producer, we share their story and ask questions, and the producer would help them, and it’s like what… It’s just all different kinds of things that we’ve been doing with the collective. We had a therapist come in and… ’cause I believe our light can get in with the stressors of the world, we all have it, and so the therapist came into the collective and shared tools for keeping stress levels and anxiety levels and just answering questions that women might have, so the collective is a fun way that we like to connect, we do meet-ups where we talk about important topics, we just did one on peace and neutrality, and just having conversations that really can raise our own vibe in the vibe of the world around us, like I said, one ripple 80000 waves so let’s just do it.
